- How is Kona Sea SaltTM produced?
- We take cool, pure seawater drawn from one-half mile deep in the Pacific Ocean and evaporate the water using only the warm tropical sun and Hawaiian tradewinds.
- Why is Kona Sea SaltTM “unique in all the world”?
- Kona Sea SaltTM is the ONLY sea salt in the world produced from seawater drawn from such an extreme depth. This water has been “isolated” from all surface contamination and pollution for more than 1,000 years.
- Is Kona Sea SaltTM different in chemical composition from other sea salts?
- Yes. Kona Sea SaltTM, because it comes from deep sea water, contains less sodium and more potassium than other salt, as well as higher concentrations of trace minerals.
- Is Kona Sea SaltTM “iodized?”
- No. We add nothing to the sea water from which the salt is made.
- Will I suffer from iodine deficiency if I use Kona Sea SaltTM?
- You typically don't have to worry about iodine deficiency, if you use noniodized salt for cooking and seasoning food. Iodine is readily available in many other foods, including dairy products and seafood. Also, many processed foods contain iodized salt.
- What do health authorities say about sea salt?
- The Mayo Clinic says: Sea salt comes in either fine or coarse grain and has a slightly different taste because of different minerals it contains. Many people prefer sea salt to table salt because they claim it has a more subtle flavor. Like kosher salt, sea salt contains no additives.
- Although your body needs some sodium to function properly, most people eat too much sodium, which can lead to high blood pressure. Most experts recommend between 1,500 and 2,400 milligrams of sodium a day for healthy adults.
