Hawaii's Most Unique Seafood Event
Friends of NELHA host Hawaii's most unique seafood event: New Waves at NELHA.
Aqua farm tours, a local gourmet luncheon, a solar thermal energy farm and Kona coffee were highlighted at ‘New Waves at NELHA’ on Friday, Nov. 6th.
Visitors and locals learned about aqua farms that utilize cold deep sea water technology, and supply their seafood to markets in Hawaii, Japan and the mainland U.S.
Although Kona Sea Salt™ did not participate in the tour portion of the event, the salt was featured on the tables for the luncheon prepared by the West Hawaii Culinary Arts team. Led by Chef Paul Heerlein, Chef Betty Saiki and James Lightner, the team presented a lavish local gourmet buffet luncheon, showcasing NELHA grown seafood and 100 percent Kona coffee in the entrees and desserts at NELHA's Gateway Center.
This year’s featured participants were: Big Island Abalone (ezo abalone), Kona Cold Lobsters (lobsters and crabs), Troutlodge Marine (butterfish), Kona Bluewater Farms (Kona Kampachi), Sapporo Beer, Ocean Vodka, Kona Coffee & Tea Co., Kona Sea Salt and Better Brands (wine and cocktails).
Friends of NELHA (FON) is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization dedicated to promoting education and outreach programs at Keahole Point, where NELHA is recognized worldwide as a unique and innovative ocean research, business and technology park.
