Sea Salt in the World
Sea Salt in the World
Kona Sea Salt is the only sea salt in the world made from pure, 900 year-old deep ocean water, rich in natural minerals and flavor. Most sea salts are created from surface waters which have significantly lower mineral content and can have higher amounts of microplastics and contaminants. Our salt water is drawn from 2,200 feet below the ocean’s surface off Hawai‘i Island, making it one of the highest quality finishing salts in the world.
Pure Kona Deep Sea Salt
It’s the only salt in the world made with pure, Deep Ocean Water drawn from 2200 feet below the surface of the ocean. The water is pumped up to our oceanfront Salt Farm in Kona on the Island of Hawai‘i.
Unmatched Purity
Our seawater originated off Greenland 900 years ago where it sank deep down and slowly traveled to Hawaii in the ocean’s Thermohaline circulation, unaffected by human influence and safe from any micro plastic contamination.
Mineral Rich
Deep Ocean Water is rich with minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese, zinc, and iodine. The dark waters at these depths have less photosynthesis which allows the abundant nutrients to remain.
Hand-Harvested & Solar Evaporated
The Deep Ocean Water is pumped up from the depths, through a 1 micron filter, and into our enclosed solar-evaporation beds. The salt is hand-cured and harvested during the 8-10 week salt-making process. Drying our salt with Kona's year-round sunshine saves energy and preserves the natural minerals and unique taste.
Prized by Gourmet Chefs
Our unique salt is prized Chefs and home cooks for its clean, natural flavor. In the words of Honolulu Chef Joseph “JJ” Reinhart, “It’s a pristine sea salt with clean mineral finish, excellent texture and the Spirit of Aloha.”
1% to the Ocean
Since 2012 we have given 1% of all proceeds to help clean up marine debris and preserve cultural sites at Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, the largest UNESCO World Heritage site in the world and part of the State of Hawai‘i.
